The Aintree Vipers Football Club is based in Aintree Village - Home of the Grand National - near Liverpool.
A small group of boys were the driving force behind the U14 team which was formed on the 15th March 2008. They had been unable to join an established team, so after asking round at school and finding that quite a few of their school mates were interested in getting a team together - They formed one of their own !
They set about finding adults around them who would agree to help. One of the boys managed to get a 4 members of his family to agree to become secretary, coach, manager and another agreed to put up the money to sponsor the team !
The boys organised the first meeting of 'The Team' to take place at Aintree Playing Field on the first Saturday of the Easter Holiday. Thirteen lads arrived eager to start training for match play, using the training equipment which had been provided by Mondi Associates Ltd, the team Sponsor. It was agreed that training would move to Sunday mornings which would be when the 'Team' would play League matches, so the next training was held on Easter Sunday morning, when 15 lads arrived. By the time the team had their third training session on the 30th March, the Aintree Vipers was officially a Football Club, registered with the Liverpool County Football Association, who had agreed to register the club as Aintree Vipers FC and arrangements were in progress for the Team to join a Football League, for the 2008/2009 season. The team began training and so did the volunteer staff, who began a range of courses.
After only 2 months Aintree Vipers FC had 22 registered members in its Under 14 team. Just over 12 months later Aintree Vipers achieved the FA Charter Standard.
Our Club is about :
Fun - Sportsmanship - Fair Play - Loyalty & Team Spirit !
The first question to ask is “how did you play?” NOT “what was the score?”
The emphasis should be on performance and enjoyment.
We all like to win
we all hate to lose
BUT there have to be winners & losers - otherwise there would be no competitions, no cups and no league tables.
SO We should all learn to win and lose with good grace.
WHAT IS WINNING ?
Winning is to have everyone still playing at U16 that started at U6.
Winning is giving young players passion for a game they can enjoy for life.
Winning is having coaches who accept every young player who wants to be part of the game - not demoralising them by 'trialing them' and sending away the ones they don't think are good enough.
Winning is challenging every player to be the best they can be and commending them for what they acheive.
Winning is encourgaing young players to strive for realistic goals based on their individual abilities.
Winning is giving positive role models.
Winning is a young player seeing coaches who want their squad to have fun - not screaming at the players, the ref and each other across the field.
Winning is not driving young players from the game at U7 because of a misguided concept of winning.
Winning will be when football can be enjoyed by every boy, girl, man & woman who wants to play, irrespective of their age or ability!
